Mainly, do you feel more measures should be taken to combat Global Warming?

If yes, please share examples of what you think should be done and any other thoughts on the subject you may have.

If not, why not? It's hard to dispute the ample scientific sources which say Global Warming is indeed an issue which has already led to weather extremes (Hurricane Katrina, droughts, floods, etc) which will only increase in number.

Thanks to all Answerers in advance.

Spud55, I realize there are credible scientists who dispute the very existence of Global Warming. If the threat is not credible, why did the Bush administration actually employ someone to change government climatic studies to dismiss the threat and who left the position after a whistleblower went public with that fact?

I know that Bush has acknowledged global warming finally, yet he's planning around 180 million dollars of deforestation to national forests, many of which are located in California. I think that this should definetly change, especially if he wants to move beyond acknowledgement. He obviously does not take the problem seriously.
Also, I think that this country along with many other major ones need to make it more expensive (taxes, whatever) to use traditional means of providing power, production, etc... and cheaper to use cleaner ones. Why not tax those that can afford it instead of putting the pressure on those who feel the effects of global warming (Katrina, flooding victims in other parts of the world, Africa, etc...).
To go with that, I love that the government is giving tax breaks to those who buy hybrids. Why not encourage a larger selection of hybrids to be introduced?
Perhaps individual communities could also stress recycling, and other states could introduce recycling and popularize it a bit. Paper, plastic, and other goods were recycled heartily in the Buffalo, NY area back in the 90's--early really. Now, I don't see much motivation to continue that trend sadly. Buffalo has the resources to recycle in a huge way too!
I'm enjoying the way that energy star products are being marketed. They may cost more, but they're going to save you at least a couple hundred in the long run.
Even the meat industry contributes to pollution, cows release methane gas into the atmosphere. Now, I'm a meat-eater, so I'm not saying that one should not eat meat, but maybe try a soy product occassionally. I love boca or morning star chicken patties...mmm..This is something that can be done on an individual basis.
Also, on the topic of food. Just an all-around good plan for the environment is introducing more organic foods at a lower cost into the supermarket. One could even buy locally grown foods. In terms of global warming, buying a product like this, or even growing your own can show that the general mass of people do care about their health, the environment, etc... Its a correlation. I'm going to wager a guess that those who eat organic food, even a small amount, generally have some concern for the environment .
Ok, I'm done now.

.When I was much younger, our teachers tried like hell to scare us about the threat of atom bombs. We had drills where we put on our coats, pulled them over our heads and hid under our desks at school. There were signs put up on larger buildings declaring that these were "official" fallout shelters. The were news items that showed folks building private shelters in their yards. YES there were atomic bombs, but even then I wondered WHY THE SCARE TACTICS ? There was a possibility that we could have been attacked, But I always disliked the way the message was delivered. I remember friends that were afraid of the future and people saying "why bring children into this world/" AGAIN the message was OK, the way it was done was terrible.............about the same time, we had the RED scare, communists were everywhere, and we were going to be overtaken by MAD Russians and even barbaric Chinese.......

Today, it is "global warming" Probably something to look at and do research about. But look at the message and the messengers. Al Gore, pampered child of a dubious Tennessee politician. A man with NO credentials. The Hollywood left and the airhead entertainment industry. College age sheep who have been spoon fed all they know by the sons and daughters of my teachers that made us cry in fear with our coats over our heads waiting for the 'ALL CLEAR". The scientific community waiting for the next grant from the fed so they can do more research and come to the conclusion that proves that we are in danger.

Conserving natural resources and not wasting energy is absolutely the right thing to do. Stopping and cleaning up pollution is a must. Living a responsible life is the goal of all clear headed people, BUT PLEASE PLEASE stop the propaganda, speak only the truth and remember that the children are listening. There is no reason to put fear of the future into the minds of the kids.

quite that the international temperature of 2007 is statistically the comparable as 2006 besides as each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days when you consider that 2001. Temperatures around the area are actually not increasing as they might desire to in accordance to the elementary concept in the back of international warming – the greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide is obviously increasing in the Earth’s environment. It’s a as we communicate line upward. it extremely is at present approximately 390 components in keeping with million. Pre-commercial ranges have been approximately 285 ppm. when you consider that 1960 whilst precise annual measurements became extra stable it has extra suitable gradually from approximately 315 ppm. If the greenhouse effect is working as we expect of then the Earth’s temperature will upward thrust because of the fact the CO2 ranges strengthen. For the previous decade the international has no longer warmed. It’s an observational fact. for sure the international of the previous 30 years is warmer than the previous many years and there is substantial evidence (in the northern hemisphere a minimum of) that the international is responding to those extra suitable temperatures. however the evidence exhibits that international warming as such has ceased.

In the 50's they were talking about global warming.
In the 70's they were touting the coming ice age.
Now we are talking about global warming again.
We just finished one of the coldest and snowiest winters that we have had in many years.
I firmly believe that the earth is going through one of it's phases that happen every so many years or decades, and there is not much reason to panic about global warming.
The Bible tells us that there will be planting and harvesting until the end of the age. If God has promised that there will be both planting and harvesting until the end, I tend to trust Him more than I do some ex-politician running around screaming "the sky is falling, the sky is falling".

I think global warming does exit. The question is what's causing it. Industry can certainly contribute to global warming if they are emitting pollutants. However, natural contributors exist, also, such as volcanic action.

Okay, here are my thoughts on global warming. Sure, scientists have determined the climate is warming. Hmmm...I think the climate has been warming and cooling for say, ummm...the last 100 MILLION OR SO YEARS!

Al Gore is so damn crazy that now he even blames the huge snowstorm in the Northeast this past winter on what? On FRICKING GLOBAL WARMING. A SNOW storm! In the 70's the enviromentalists and liberal scientists were screaming that pollution was going to cause the next ice-age...Which is it? Ooops. We were wrong.

10 years from now I'm going to be laughing at all you global warming wacko's. You'll probably be too busy worrying that mankind is littering the universe with exhaust from the International space station or something like it...

I swear, liberals absolutely cannot be happy unless they have some impending doom that they can use to push mindless folks into following their agendas.

I think all people concerned about global warming should see the movie of Al GORE'S oscar nominated documentary "AN INCONVINIENT TRUTH" and let them also share this to anyone they know so that they can help minimize the problem.
if they have time, plant some trees..

Your "ample scientific sources" are neither ample nor even scientific in many cases. The weather extremes that you site are not a result of Global Warming, in fact, Dr William Gray, who pioneered the current method of hurricane forecasting in the Atlantic basin, would argue that point with you. In fact, he directly refuted Al Gore's similar claims in his "Inconvenient Truth." The models (referred to my meloveddog's above) that are being used have no means of calculating all the factors (deep ocean currents just for one) and therefore are unreliable. You have been duped into the herd mentality of man made global warming. Congratulations.

Conserve energy. Doesn't mean not doing things, means doing them more efficiently.

Develop alternative sources of energy; nuclear, solar, wind, biofuels, clean coal. This is a huge problem, we'll need all the tools we can get.

Develop means to capture (sequester) carbon.

Of course we should do some measures not to avoid but to lessen the effect because we can do nothing about it.
Dont use HCFC gases found on beauty kits, do not burn materials that emits harmful gases, use a car free of pollutants. The problem is there and there's nothing we can do about it, just be prepared to be transferred on MARS.
