If a file ends with ".torrent" it is only the file which supplies information to your bittorrent programme on where to get the actual file.

When the file is finished downloading, you should have a larger file with just the ".avi" extension. This is the actual video file.

As for playing the finished file, "VLC Media Player" is a good choice as it plays the majority of file types.

Go here http://www.videolan.org/ for VLC Media Player. It's free BTW.

What you have is a torrent file, it is not the actual media.

What you need is a torrent client to download the actual files - the .otrrent file is just a sort of 'pointer' to the actual files so you can find them. I recommend Azureus (free): http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

Then you will likely have downloaded a file that needs to be decompressed. Then you will likely need another program to decompress it. I recommend 7-zip (free): http://www.7-zip.org/

Once you decompress the file, then it is ready to be played by your media player.

Because of this process, .torrents are more useful for large files because downlaod speed is much faster than in bearshare, limewire, etc. But, the process fo getting to the files is more cumbersome.

Bets option is to download daemon tools lite (complete free, and legal) and then mount the image emulating it as a CD/DVD. the reason for this is that .iso tend to be copied CD's. You can also get trial software which allow you to open them up and extract like Alcohol but hazving tried these I still go back to Daemon. It runs from a tray icon and all you do is right click on the image choose the top option and them mount image. then browse for the file. this will then create a virtuakl drive which you treat the same ay you od a real one. Alll very straight forward. hope this helps
