35Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?"
"Nothing," they answered.

36He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. 37It is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors'[b]; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment."

38The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords."
"That is enough," he replied. [Luke 22:35-38]

That's not metaphorical.

He was numbered with the transgressors on the cross.

I think most of that is metaphorical, yes. Jesus tended to speak in metaphors and parables a lot so that supports my belief. Essentially what I gather he is saying is that with him, one doesn't NEED anything else, BUT if you have something else that will help you, go ahead and take it.

As for "Son of God" being metaphorical, I don't think it's a statement to be taken completely literally but I wouldn't quite say it's a metaphor. I figure that Jesus IS God, just in a human body. Essentially, the body of Jesus doesn't have a soul, but has God instead. He was born without a flesh father, and God is the one who did that, so in essence he is Jesus' father, but (in a really sci-fi way) I look at it more like Mary was the portal that God used to go from heaven to earth, if that makes any sense.

Jesus was refering to that before whatever the apostles needed the people provided it for them. He was warning them that after his resurrection (Praise God!) that things would be different for them. Jesus IS the son of God, although I don't think this passage has anything to do with that!

This book accurately answers difficult things Jesus said. (author FF Bruce, prominent Biblical Greek scholar)

is not not called "a 'son of God'" he is called THE Son of God, and that verse isn't necessarily metaphorical. You can take it both literal and apply it to life as a metaphor. This is the case with most things in the bible, there is no black and white when interpretation the bible

Jesus referred to himself in the third person as the Son of Man.

He had a few goofy followers who later came up with the idea that he is the son of God.

I am starting to wonder after the bones of Jesus thing. No one can take God away from me because of my experiences, but the Bible is suspicious to me now.

...remember, always read Scripture in context... go back a few vs's... Jesus is talking about events concerning His death, the Scripture is clear... it's "Peter" who is having a problem... "Peter" just doesn't get it... Peter, most of the time was way to carnal and not in the Spirit... prior, He sent them out to share the Good News... now He's telling them to be ready for things to get "hot"...
