If it were truly selfless, and I told you about it, it would no longer be selfless would it?

I don't mind answering that question. Many years ago, I was living in a four apartment townhouse. I was pretty much broke all the time. My neighbor, who I had just met, told me his x wife passed away and she lived in Florida, he in CT. Well, he had 4 small children that lived with his x wife. He was a self employed upholsterer in CT and was at that time in a bad season since he did mostly boats. So I gave him the only money I had, which I was to use for rent. He looked shocked and asked why would I do that not knowing him and no guarantee of getting it back before my rent was due. I didn't care about the rent. I cared about his 4 children that just lost their mother. He needed to be there with them and that was all I was concerned about. And yes, when he returned, he paid me back. It wasn't self sacrifice to me, it was faith alone.

I supervise nursing assistants @ a homecare agency. Our clients are medicaid mostly & the aides don't get paid a lot. I often give them money for gas, even if it means I do without a meal or whatever. I don't make a lot of money either & sometimes I give out all the money I have in my purse. If they pay me back , well & if they don't, no hard feelings.

All the time.

Today I opened a door for a woman holding a newborn baby, and a gate open for a woman pushing a pram with twins.

The other week I took my nephew out, since his dad is gone and doesn't want much to do with him anymore.

Too many others, really.... Doesn't have to be huge to be a blessing!

Self sacrifice is not just helping others, but giving up your own personal time in your day, giving up TV or games, or a golf date, going to the movies etc and spending time with God in prayer and meditation.

It is also giving up the things in life that you have grown acustomed to because the rest of the world is accepting it, but you know God does not.

Example.
TV shows that are all about murder, or the language is foul. Food that you know through your daily Bible study is not what God said we should eat because it is uncleaned. Just because something was written in the old testament does nto mean it got canceled out by the New Testament.
Case and point... We all are to live and obey God's Ten Commandments. They come from the Old Testament.

I gave up eating pork, and shell fish of any kind, and only eat what God instructs me to eat, which is found in Leviticus 7:1-38 This is a self sacrifice. I was asked by God to choose the people I considered to be my friends who did not believe in God or live accordint to His word, and I choose God over them., because God pointed out to me that we are not to be around people who do not live according to His word.

2 Thessalonians 3:14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

If the people that are to be a part of my life, I am not to be around those who constantly swear, steal, lie, and actually those who do not live according to God's word. This is because of this...

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Those who might be nice people but do not have God in their lives eventually will pollute you spiritually, and God does not want us to be tempted around people like that.

This is what God wants us to do that will make us self sacrifice...

1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

This is not as easy as it reads either. So what are you doing in your life that brings glory to God, and what are you sacrificing in that life, that you need to give up, because it does not bring glory to God? It doesn't just stop at helping people. But it does begin with studying God's word daily so you can know what He expects from us as we walk with Him daily. Are you moving forward with Him, or are you standing still?

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

good question The answer to this question requires me to "boast" about what i've done, thus defeating the reason i did what i did. God know--thus i don't feel comfortable answering the question. "...Thus the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thy self..."

That question is too personal for a public forum like this.

Not many people get high on ego trips in here... at least, not some of the more respect-worthy ones...
