basically i am 5.3" female and 153 pounds (atm) and 21 years old i have started trying to loose weight by changing my patterns, i havent been eating unhealthy for over a year well not to bad apart from the odd takeaways at weekend which has now been strictly cut. ok, i have noticed that people say that noone should eat less than 1200 cals a day but for example today i have eaten an apple, banana, chickpea salad, homemade veg soup and will have grilled salmon with garlic, ginger and spring onions. In my opinion i cannot see what i am doing wrong what i am eating however it amounts to 546 cals but if i hate more i think i would feel sick. i do vary my diet and most days i have all bran or alpen for breakfast, some times i have brown rice (i dont eat anything white, nor do i eat carbs and proteins together) i always make sure i have something from each food source daily.Am i doing something wrong my weight is dropping but concearned i am not eating healthy ( sorry for the essay) cheers

When I was a weight counselor, I used to tell the clients that I didn't consider salmon under the 'fish' category, just because it has so much fat in it. Still, if you are wanting to lose weight, are 5'3", I really think your caloric intake is way high. How much exercise are you doing, daily. I don't mean that you need to stop what you are doing and do exercises. I mean, do you walk a lot, climb stairs any, work a hard job? Do you keep your portion sizes down to the size of your own fist? Do you drink lots of water, and stay clear of carbonated drinks? Eating 1200 calories a day is nothing I've EVER heard of, as being the least amount you should eat. I know that keeping weight on, eating 1200 calories a day would work. Being 5'3" tall, female, I would guess that eating over 800 calories, daily, would be a lot for you to eat. Homemade soup leaves a lot of questions in my mind, as we all make it differently. I know that when I make soup, it is just full of healthy things with a lot of calories in it. I think that your caloric count of the foods you described is low. If your weight is dropping with the diet you are currently on, I would say to keep it up. You are eating lots of different food categories, and if it works for your system, keep it up. Do not listen to what 'people' say is the correct amount of calories for YOUR body. If you are losing slowly, feel good, are healthy, then, I'd say you've found your own secret diet. Good for you! I like it!

The less you eat - the less your body becomes accustomed to functioning on - the less your body needs.

You are doing a disservice to your metabolism. When your body gets so little nutrition, it goes into "omg! store it! store it!" mode.

You should eat three meals a day. Digestion in itself requires calories. Apples and bananas are healthy, but full of sugars. Raw vegetables, salads, leafy green vegetables, whole grains, you know what healthy is. Eating combinations of food makes them work better - doesn't do you any good to restrict your proteins to "lunch" and your carbs to "supper".

546 calories is not healthy.

You didn't mention exercise? You will lose muscle if you do not give your body what it needs to build it. Muscle uses more calories to maintain than fat.

Maybe you should try and follow a weight reduction programme like weight watchers online or buy a book on GI diet then at least you will get good tips and can adapt your diet to fit in with an evidence based plan. Good luck. PS your not that big anyway, so don't panic too much.

The reason why it is said not to eat less than 1200 calories per day is this. Once you start eating more your body will grab every calorie and keep it. It is okay to not eat 1200 calories in a day occasionally. It is tough to lose weight and keep it off. Good luck to you and remember walking gets rid of belly fat and is good for circulation.

i won't say the two because of the fact some persons are skinny/vast whilst they're youthful and as they become older their physique variations. inspite of the undeniable fact that, I ought to show out that your contemporary eating habit isn't healthful in any respect. you're able to eat often, breakfast, lunch and dinner. i'm no longer asserting which you should eat plenty at each and every meal. merely attempt to %. up a healthful eating habit. in case you benefit a sprint weight then, that's what your physique needed.
