There are lot's of very good animes, but I recommend the last, and the better of them all. It's called "5 centimeters per second". It's a movie consisting of 3 OVAs. The first OVA has already been released and I review it here:

Ohhh, if you want some funny, romance, action anime, you should see:
Full Metal Panic (3 seasons)!!
Suzumiya Haruhi (13 episodes) (WARNING: Don't get confused with first episode, it's weird, anime really begins in episode 2)
These last two are strongly recommended!
To see this animes, try to find them in youtube or download them with torrent system (for example: http://www.snarf-it.org/pages/search.html?query=suzumiya)
A very, very, very funny anime is:
Ouran Host Club, it's just hilarious!

My recommendations would be Naruto, DNAngel, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Ranma 1/2. Though I guess it's all just a matter of opinion. People have different opinions of Romantic. I would just check into descriptions of different series and see if they appeal to you. The only place I know of online to watch anime is youtube.

have you ever watched ranma 1/2??? it is my favorite, the guy who does the voice over for inuyasha does the voice for ranma, i like inuyasaha too, but i couldn't get into fruit basket for some reason

You will need to find the HD version of "Ghost in the Machine 2" Which is the MOST awsome anime EVER.
However, until it is out on Blue Ray or HDDVD, you would need DirecTV.
Blows me away.

ranma 1/2 by Rumiko Takahashi It is kinda funny, little bit romantic(i'm only guessing) and has lots of action.
