He talks to me but avoids eye contact, if there is any eye contact is really brief and then he looks down, as in reading a paper... what is up with that? What do you guys think is going on... could he be unsure of his feelings or is he too far gone?

it sounds like he isn't that interested he is just being polite talking to you however now putting any real emotion into his conversations.
get over him and find someone that is interested in you.

Some people really have issues with eye contact. I have the hardest time looking people in the eye about anything. It's not like I'm lying or anything, I just don't feel comfortable with it. I have trouble lookng my boyfriend in the eye just when we're casually talking. He knows that I have trouble with that and it doesn't mean anything. I'm completly secure about where I am with him, and I just can't do it.
Maybe you should ignore the eyes for a bit and listen to what he's saying. Meaning, see if he's having trouble talking about certain things in your relationship. You'll be able to tell what he means sometimes by how he says it. Don't overthink things like this.

Sounds to me he is interested in you.
If you are interested in him, give him some signs because he is really a shy guy if he avoid eye contact.
