Yes you can see the baby. What you can't see is the specific features of the baby due to it's size. You will most definatly Not see the sex. My first U/S I usually get is between 5-9 weeks to confirm pregnancy. After that I get an U/S around 14/16 weeks. That is when you can really see the baby.
I hope this helps. Try the 3-D ultrasound. They are great.

umm at 5 weeks i think its to soon. I got my first ultrasound at 8 weeks and all it looked like was a little circle figure. I had a second one done at 12 weeks and i got to see the figure of the baby's whole body.

depending in how they do your ultrasound the baby will show up with a probe ultrasound this is one internally the traditional ultrasoun will show a tiny spot you may not be able to recognize at this point they will probably be doing an ultrasound to check the measurements and positions of the baby

Yes, but it would probably have to be a vaginal ultrasound (it gives a closer image of the baby). I had one at about 4 weeks. She looked like a peanut (just a blob - no limbs or other body parts yet).

yes, it will be very tiny and not look like a baby at all.
There is a study that says even 1 ultrasound before 20 weeks has a direct link to autism. Please research all your decisons yourself and ask your doctor any questions you might have!

YES! you can see the baby!!! it doesn't quite look like a babe, but if i'm remembering mine correctly, you can even see his little heart beat!! This is done with an internal ultrasound... which is the same, but they put a special wand into your vaginal opening... it doesn't hurt. it's really cool!

If they do one transvaginally, it will show up. By no means will it look like a baby, it will just be a little speck on the screen.
