It depends on what you are brushing with and how you are brushing. You certainly can damage your teeth and gums with a hard brush or a heavy-handed assault on them. Your dentist or hygienist can watch you brush and advise you on the proper method. I recommend a Sonicare ultrasonic electric toothbrush. Let it do the job for you. Don't press hard enough to damage the brush head and you won't hurt your teeth either.

I have had to have my gums filled in at least 3 or 4 times in my life time because of brushing 'too hard and the wrong way'. I stopped having this problem once I got a battery operated toothbrush.

You're supposed to brush at least 3x a day.

To answer your last question - I just get an oral B one off the shelf in the grocery store. Under $10 even (and usually I have a coupon).

Dentist used to actually recommend u brush 3 times a day, but people started getting discouraged and not brushing at all. 3 times a day is fine as long as you're not making your gums bleed from brushing too hard and not brushing for more than 1 min. at a time. If your still worried about your gums I would recommend flossing or using mouthwash in place of a third brushing

You should get an award for brushing your teeth 3 times a day. This is excellant.

I don't think so as long as you ARE NOT brushing too hard. I think everyone should brush at least twice - morning and evening - I do. And if I eat something sugary I will brush right away as I can feel the sugar on my teeth and i don't like it.

no, if you ask your dentist they will tell you brushing more times per day is better for your teeth; you do need to be careful that you don't brush too hard and that your tooth brush has soft bristles

3 times a day is a good amount...

(but that whole "you have to brush for three minutes" thing is just rediculous)
