I know it's traditional, but I don't want to!! We're having the wedding in a small chapel, and I want to walk the aisle to "Red on a Rose" by Alan Jackson, which is slow, and I think, appropriate. Is it right for church though??

You can actually choose any music you like. After all, you're not marrying in a church that might have restrictions on secular music. Do you have live music or are you using a boom box or iPod? This will make a difference. If you're using the boom box option or iPod, you can use anything that's ever been recorded. If you're using live musicians, you'd better consult with them about what they already know. Pchelbel's Canon in D is popular for weddings. JS Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is very pretty, dignified, and a bit less commonly used. The Beatles wrote some very pretty love songs that would work nicely, such as Something or Here, There, and Everywhere. Most cultures have a traditional tune or two. I was piped up the aisle to a tune called Highland Wedding. Good luck choosing a tune! There are literally thousands of good tunes to choose from. I'm sure you'll find something you love.

You can choose whatever music you want! This is your day and it only happens once so do whatever you feel will make your day even more memorable.

I was 35 when I got married for the first time and I wanted a traditional Church Wedding, but I hate the HCTB song. So I spent months listening to all kinds of instrumental music and when I would listen I would do the walk (it is the only way you will know for sure if it works). I finally settled on Kenny G - from the breathless album, it was the last song and it was perfect, I was stunned when I looked at the back of the CD and it was called "The Wedding Song". I also used Kenny G for the arrival of the guests (Always) and the seating of the parents and the procession (Champions Theme). For the recessional I used Yanni (Reflections of Passion).

I choose my own readings, we played "our song" at one point in the ceremony and during the lighting of the unity candle we chose a special song by Bryan Adams - "I'll Always Be Right There" because one of the lyrics was "Forever we will be together a family" and we thought it was so appropriate as we were blending families.

We each wrote our own vows. I wrote the greeting and the declaration of intention (do you take this woman...). So you see you can make it your day, your way.

Congratulations and good luck!

Of course not. Actually, I have been to scores of weddings, and only one has used the traditional song. We walked down the aisle to a beautiful Ukrainian hymn.
Check with your priest/minister if you can have songs other than religious songs. Start there.

You do not have to walk to "the Wedding March". Choose your Alan Jackson song or another song that has meaning to you and yours and walk to that!

Best wishes for a long and happy marriage!

The wedding march is a very traditional HUGE wedding type song. If you are having a small wedding and its very personal and not for just show then I would say you do need to pick something that is for you. Its your day and for your enjoyment.

I don't know the song, but I know you don't always have to walk to "The Wedding March". It's up to you...you're the bride and you get to make the calls! If this is what you really want to do than go for it!! :0)

You can walk down the aisle to what ever you want as long as your church is ok with it. I am getting married in September and I am walking down to "The Rose" by Bette Midler and walking out to "All You Need Is Love" by Paul McCartney. Congratulations!!

It is your day to shine. Keep it classy! Do not get out of control and play something like Red, Red Wine. Ew. I am having the same problem, but I am looking for acoustic guitar hit songs. That is another thought. If you like Etta James At Last, try to find the acoustic version of any hit song. The sound of the acoustic guitar is sooooo Romantic. Even hire someone who can play the guitar to play any song live for you.

Congrats and Good Luck!!

No,they can march down the aisle to "Mars the Bringer of War" by Gustav Holst or perhaps "theme from Shaft" by trumpet player Maynard Ferguson and his big band or "Gonna Fly Now" theme from Rocky also by Maynard Ferguson .
