My boyfriend and I have been together for 5 1/2 years and we are supposed to get married soon. I have decided that I do not want to marry him but I don't know how to tell him. We have never really had any problems so this will be a major shock to him.

about a month before i was going to get married, i started to freak out and doubt myself. this is a totally normal process. i think you need to go to a counsellor with your fiancee and have them help you evaluate whats going on in your head. you might just have the cold feet we all get when faced with a serious decision.

Is it that you just don't want to get married, or is it that you don't want to be with him at all? Either way you have to sit down and talk to him, don't wait til the last minute. If you are just not ready for marriage then tell him that and if he loves you then he should understand. I'm sure it will hurt but they say time heals all wounds. Now if you are just trying to get rid of him completely then that is a little different. You are going to have to explain to him what is going on. Is it just a change of heart, or is it someone else? You have to tell him right away since you are supposed to get married soon. I hope it all works out.

Well, first you need to identify WHY you want to leave him. If you have an explanation of why you are doing this then it will help you when you actually tell him. Be specific! Don't just say "because" or use "it's me, not you" ---after 5 1/2 years, he deserves a thorough explanation after all this time. Have you had problems or will this be coming out of the blue?

well if there is no problem. Then whats the reason for you not wanting to marry him. Now if your not ready then he should understand that, and if thats not the case then find out what the issue is and tell him he deserves to know

Just do it the longer you wait the more it will hurt him.
Do it like a band-aid just get it off with one swipe and quickly it's not painfree just hurts less.
