getting along?

im only close to everyone in my family except my dad, we just dont get along really well, i mean i just cant socialize with him, how do u people get along with ur dad?

My Dad has never been a significant person in my life. He'll tell you, he's a lazy father. More or less we're friends. I don't respect him like I do my Mom. I see my Dad at holidays and that's about it. He has no real realtionship with my children or me.

Now my Step-Dad on the otherhand has picked up where my Dad left off. I am so thankful to have him in my life. If he doesn't hear from me, he'll call me at least once a week just to see how things are going. Recently he helped my hubby and me with some remodeling. My real DAD would NEVER go out of his way unless he was getting something in return.

I don't see my dad very much. He lives in Alabama and I live in Pennsylvania. We are not close and I see him maybe once a year and when we do see each other we get along OK, I guess. Its not that we ever had a problem getting along, its that he moved away when I was very young and my parents split and has missed out on just about everything in my childhood and now is missing out on his grandchilden's childhoods.

I can't socialize with my father either. I think because we are more alike then my mother and I. When I see my dad in a store, I feel weird saying something to him, but I always end up telling my children, "look there is pop-pop" and he says Hi and we go on our merry little way. lol

My son get along very well with my hubby. Not just very well but they more like a bestfriends. That's what i can see.
From my opinion to get along with your father is by learning what he likes most. Try to join him with his hobby. Give him support if you don't like what he likes. If he likes some sports game just join with him that's is the best time to be with him.
