I was in the wedding photography industry for awhile. I can say that ranges very wildly, from $250 to $10,000 for a 2 hour event. I know you are saying that you want cheap. I am assuming you also want good pictures. The good news is sometimes you can get good and cheap. You need to know what to look for. Call around to all the photographers in your area. Make a list of 5 to 10 in your price range. Then you must go look at their portfolio. Make sure they have a portfolio of at least 6 or 7 weddings. Additionally, make sure he will show you a large amount of photos from each wedding and it not limiting the number to 2 or 3 pictures from each wedding. When you shoot 5,000 pictures at a wedding, anyone is going to get 2 or 3 good pictures. A good photographer will have a much higher percentage of good versus bad pictures. Additionally, you need to call at least a couple of his references. Also, if the person does not have a well established business, then to not pay them up front for their services. You don't want a fly by night guy skipping town with your money and not even doing the wedding.

I am one, and you can spend nothing, have your brother take them, or 25,000 dollars for New York's best. The last one I did cost them 2000 dollars plus travel. I gave them about 400 photos all in all, 20 of which were photoshop'ed, and a DVD movie of about 20 mins length with music and special fxs, etc. I think this should have cost them more, but I was building my portfolio. Are you getting married on the Dutch side or French side?, I use to live on the Dutch side and know the owners of La Samana Hotel there.
You will be able to find someone on the Island to help you and it won't be 2000. Also look on Saba Island and St Barts as they are close and may have some photographers that can help you.

A destination photographer doesn't have to cost a lot of money if you know where to go. For instance if you go to Europe, check out www.tripshooter.com. They have packages starting at 169E.

It would depend on the destination location and what you paid for. Many resorts are all inclusive so that cuts down considerably on the food cost and alcohal costs. We went to a resort in riviera maya Mexico and they had several wedding pavilions that we were free of charge for their guests. So their only exoense was wedding attire and the costs associated with staying at the resort. There were six of us in our party and it costs us about $4800 and that included airfare. We stayed 5 days. The weddings we saw were casual. The groomsmen were in dressy casual shorts and shirts and the bridesmaids had on sundresses.

Sometimes bringing your own photographer saves money. Since you can get the person that you are more comfortable with than using someone that is at the location.
