They must be getting into something, do you have dogs too? are they perhaps eating dog food on the side? Do they go outside? Are they catching mice?
Even feeding the same food not every batch of food is the same, and some might be richer than others. Have you increased there treats? Are they peeing more or pooping more? If they are peeing more you might want to have there kidneys checked. Pooping more and smelling more is something dietary. To cut back on smell its as simple as cleaning more often. Something no owner wants to do I know. I guess watch them for any side sneaking intake of foods not of the kibble kind.

To get rid of odor - Better idea - Someone else mentioned charcoal. I have the perfect product that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great. It works so much better than baking soda and all those sprays and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. The carbon literally absorbs and eliminates the odors and works for a long time. Just clip a couple of these onto the litter box. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. Someone else even said available in England. Definitely worth trying

If it smells more like urine then the litter may be soiled, and therefore not effective. Keep the box clean. Empty the old litter and add new litter. I recommend Fresh Step. I have three cats and the smell is aweful right away, but decreases in a short period of time.

If you just spayed one, then you will see a physical change in the cat. They can excrete old hormones that are no longer in use.

Do you change the litter on a regular basis? Perhaps you should simply ask your vet about them. Also are they out door cats? Cats tend to do most of their business outside, maybe you could consider letting them be outdoor cats-depending on where you live of course. You could also consider giving them separate litter boxes to reduce smell. One of your cats might have a stomach bug and you don't want the other one to catch it. Hope this helps.

Are they still growing? The volume is directly related to how much they eat, and nothing else. If they're growing they might just be eating more. The odor could be affected if they are hunting and eating their catch, or if your cat was fed another food while in the hospital, or if they had parasites in their intestines. You might want to bring a fresh poo sample to your vet just to have them check.

If you mean the pee, you should definitely ask your vet -- bad smells and increased volume of urine that persists for more than a couple days could be due to illness (kidney problems, infections, FUS ...).

A few times I've added baking soda to control the odor in my kitties' boxes.

Now, it could be the spaying. But if nothing else has changed, you might want to take your cats for a check up and make sure nothing has upset their stomachs.
