Talk about something that he likes, and keep the conversation going to keep him interested. To start it off, say a joke or complain about something... It usually works.

all you need to do is tell him about your feelings and just put the ball at his side of the court that way you'll have no doubts about the subject you'll talk about, if he likes you back than it wont be important what are you going to talk about.
