I've been told that by having running egg yolk won't kill the salmonella and I risk the kids contracting it. What are the chances of this?

are you kidding?? slightly running yolks in boiled eggs are the best!! it's child abuse if you don't give this yummy goodness to your kids.

Although the risk in eggs now is slight for the presence of salmonella (about 1 in 2000), it can still mean a very serious, even fatal, illness for highly susceptible populations (elderly, HIV+, YOUNG KIDS). The eggs, including the yolk, should be cooked to an internal temperature of 145F.

Some groceries now sell pasteurized shell eggs, which would be safe undercooked. They can be hard to find though and are more expensive. Each egg will be stamped with a "P"

Always buy from a reliable source - not one of these roadside stands that may have had the eggs lying around for days.

I have eaten solft-boiled eggs (bioled eggs with running yolks) all my life. There shouldn't be a problem as long as the eggs come from a trusted source. Although i used to raise chickens myself and those eggs were very good too.

How young are the children? Most likely if they are school-age (over 6) then they have already been exposed to salmonella and are fine. Also if they have eaten sunny side up eggs.. the same risk would be there.

For a really good taste, add a little salt to it!

I have always given my two boiled eggs. I have a 2 and a 3 year old. I tend to buy free range organic eggs, and although the yolk is runny, I always make sure the white is really cooked solid, and some of the yolk is probably quite firm.
I think if you buy goo quality eggs (make sure they are n date and have the red lion mark on them) , and cook them until the whites are firm, there shouldn't be any problems.

me, my-self likes hard boiled eggs instead of runny ones because of the chances of getting salmonella. But aslong as they are cooked okay and the yoke looks okay then it should be fine to give to you kids.

As long as the white of the egg is opaque, the yolk will be fine. You don't have to completely cook the yolk to bring it up to the proper temperature.

I would not give to under 2 as you may contract salmonella also could have an allergic reaction.

People are more at risk from food hygiene problems because we dont get exposed to germs as much as we used to. Peolpe can quite safely eat raw eggs without fear of salmonella.

Your kids could get salmonella from playing with their dirty filthy friends. If they like runny eggs, feed it to them. If they get sick, take them to the doctor. As for odds of them getting it, I'd say the risk is about .1%

the rule in my house is age 7. i just made up a number. but the kids werent interested until that age anyway. i would stick to the rule of thum, dont give them to kids who are proned to getting sick all the time. does you kid always have a runny nose, or cough or fever? then that means his immune system is a little susceptible. just to be on the side of caution. but my two oldest loooove over easy eggs with toast! yummm

My kids have been having runny yolks with soldiers since they were old enough to eat, just make sure the white bit isnt runny, then there not cooked enough.
