One addition use a rubber maid or Sterilite Clear container but cut the hole in the lid not the side. Also make sure it is translucent that way it give the interior light. Cats are not as apt to jump though the lid if it is dark inside. If they can see through it somewhat that creates curiosity and they like that they can see out while inside.

Also if you are handy you can drill dime size holes around the entry hole that act as a grid when the cat jump out walks across the lid the litter falls of his feet and back into the litter box below.

PS make sure it is high enough for the cat to stand in about the same height as a cat carrier.

I have three cats and the best litter box is a large clear container for storage I bought at Walmart. it has high sides and the litter will not spill. Why not try it and see.
