During the time of the Roman Empire the Roman's kept records of everything that happened. Some of what's in the bible is backed up by Roman records. For example, the cencus Mary and Joseph had to go to Bethlehem for was a record held by the romans

Jewish scripture also has similarites to the Bible - althought sometimes with a different slant.

For example - Was Jesus real? - Bible says he was the saviour - Roman Records have him as a rebel jew - Jew's writtings have him as a blasphemer, a rebel.

The answer that included the fact that 70 % of the worlds populations don't follow the bible is incorrect. The Bible is the no. 1 book sold every year and Christianity is one of the most followed faiths around, along with Islam. Christianity is the world's biggest religion. In 2002 there were more than two billion Christians, in nearly all parts of the world.

The book of Daniel was found in the archives of the library of Alexandria -- translated from Hebrew to Greek circa 250 BC. Daniel had predicted certain things would happen in Jerusalem, to which scholars claimed the book was written 'after the fact', when in fact the Greek translation was authenticated to have been written (translated) well before said events took place in Jerusalem.

How many more facts do you want?

Biblical archeologists are continually coming up with archeological evidence (facts) that corroborate the Bible.

Well...as the cliche goes, it's all about faith...

What I know and what anyone else knows has actually no relevance to any of this...

What I've experienced, or what another person has experienced will have no effect on you unless you experience it for yourself -- It's like trying to convince you that little green men exist when you have never seen anything to convince you of it...

Besides, if one bases the validity of the Bible on the lives of many people who bear the name Christian then it's no wonder why so many others are atheists.

Obviously, it doesn't do to give verses from the Bible that say it is from God -- anyone can write a book and claim it's from God.

Jesus, however, did say something about that -- "My teaching is not my own. It comes from Him who sent Me. If anyone CHOOSES to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own..."

In other words, try it out first. If you really want to know what the buzz is all about, then try it. Just try it then you will know for yourself if it really is from God, as some claim, or if it's just another book. Until then, any judgment you make concerning it's validity is not acceptable because you have no firsthand knowledge of it -- but if you have tried it out for yourself, then you will know.

As you have seen, I haven't said anything that isn't fact -- I also think that what I think has no relevance, but I also care about what you will know. Before you reach any conclusions, why don't you try it out first -- no one is forcing you and no one can make you believe anything you don't want to but until you try it out first you will never know for sure if it's true or not, everything you know will just be hearsay...

There's no harm in checking out the validity of something -- you lose nothing by checking it out. If you find evidence for or against the validity of the Bible then you've gained more knowledge from it...

Try checking out the New Testament first -- that's where you can see firsthand what Christianity is about.

There is overwhelming archaeological evidence for the Bible. It has been used to discover and understand many ancient sites. Recently, they even found Pharaoh's Chariots near an undersea 'road' crossing the Gulf of Aqabah, the eastern arm of the Red Sea.

there is archaeological evidence for many of the episodes in the bible. But while the bible contains many historical events (whether one believes such events occured or not) and many scientific facts, it is neither a history book or a science book. It is instructions for life, often told through stories, some of which are allegorical and metaphorical in nature.

Well, Jerusalem is still standing for one thing. Archaeological evidence has proven the Babylonian exile was a factual event. Like that? I mean, if you're looking for a poke at creationists, i.e. "Was the universe actually created in seven days?", then I suspect you can answer yourself there.

If it were fact, Damascus would have been a pile of rubble for about 27 centuries instead of the world's oldest city with a continuous history.

Science alone has proven the book as fact for the very basis that it predicted history in the past and it came true.

The most simple one is the birth of Israel. Look at how all that came to be, what was there prior, how long it was there, etc.

I know that scripture is indeed both fact and truth. The reason is that when you become a true beliver you can feel the in the word of god.

Gosh, there is so much.
First I would encourage you to explore the Historic Method, as the bible has been proven to be the most historically accurate of all books in history.

Then I would present the Archaeological record which has proved the bible record time and again.

Just those two alone, plus testimony is enough.
