Sorry, guys. Although the terms became muddied and misused over the years, there's a big difference between a cabriolet and a convertible. A convertible is just what you think it is...a folding canvas roof. A cabriolet has a rigid skeleton roof, with removeable panels, and a fold-down section at the rear. On the XJS cabriolet, the roof has an applied canvas covering, so that it resembles a true convertible. You can find photos of each on these links:

No difference. Depends on whether you're buying or selling. If you're buying, it's a cabriolet, if you're selling, it's a convertible. Cabriolet just sounds better, fancier.

Cabriolet usually refers to a retractable hard-top.

Just terminology like cabriolet, soft top, convertible, rag top to name a few!

nothing at all, it means the same thing. Although, one could be a hard-top convertible and one a soft top.

Absolutely no difference whatsoever old bean........ apart from of course the very obvious spelling differences, but hey, why split hairs.
