a) I can't stop thinking impure thoughts, wondering if homosexuality and (non-abortifacient) birth control aren't okay, and if the church hierarchy really isn't necessary and is just a political thing - so I can't go to communion anyway -and-
b) if I don't go to communion, the nosy old biddies give me dirty looks -and-
c) my three kids (6 and under) behave terribly in church, causing still more nosy-old-biddy-dirty-looks -and-
d) I can't afford to put money in the collection plate
enough reasons?
Finding a church that was like a cathoic church, but not? No, I don't see why I'd bother.

The music (although I do hate some of the changes made after Vatican 2) has nothing to do with why I (and I suspect many others) stopped going to mass. As for the sermon, the relevancy there depends on the priest, not on catholics services in general, so that isn't why either. In fact, my priest still gives some of the best sermons I've heard to date. I think people have personal issues with their faith. That's why they stop going. At least it's why I stopped going. I felt phony.

I don't attend Catholic church for several reasons. Most dealing with what I considered blatant disregard for the bible, even there own translation of it. Example, when Jesus gave the Apostles the Lord's Prayer he said not to use the same words over and over. The First Commandment prohibits worship of any deity other than God. Praying the Rosary violates both of these.
I have yet to find a church or religion that does not contradict itself somewhere in it's teachings.

I stopped attending the catholic church when I began to question the doctrine they preached. There is so much that is non-scriptural it drove me crazy. I began to attend some counselling sessions with our parish priest and one day he told me that everytime I didn't attend church I was committing a mortal sin. In response, I reminded him of Christ's rant againt the pharisees--he called them hypocrites for standing outside the temple and proclaiming their religious holiness. I told him that I refused to be a hypocrite by worshipping a religion I didn't believe in.
He wished me well and told me that when God wanted me to come home, I would be led. Years later, I joined another religion and have never looked back.

I have a church just like that. It's great with a great priest too. I still don't attend. Sometimes even when everything is available we still don't make the effort. My actions have fallen out of line with what is right and I am not yet prepared to mend my ways. I still believe in what is right, I am just having trouble following it and wanting to follow it.

ummmm there's more to church than the music and the sermon
but I'm no longer Catholic....and it sounds like neither are you???
eulalie... at the last supper, Jesus made absolutely no exceptions about people who could not have communion... His command was "Do this in memory of me." you can actually do so right from the comfort of your own home!

It's about going to worship, to love and to thank God that we go to church.... not to be entertained.
You miss the real meaning of the Eucharist.
