Maybe we should as a nation motion for equality, NO BLACK HISTORY MONTH, just AMERICAN HISTORY. why not give black people true equality instead of singling them out? why not treat them as equals instead of giving them "special treatment?" why not mesh their history with the history of the nation instead of discounting it and making ti a separate thing?
I think its disgusting myself. If there were to be a white history month the USA would implode from all the "racism" that was being spread- its only racist is whites do it. Why can't people just settle for EQUALITY- why demand the special treatment?

I would like to add, for the black demographic, that I am Native American and my people were not given the option of slavery, instead they were mercilessly slaughtered. As far as being paid back for an entire people being eradicated.... its impossible so why try? Why not provide better public education or money for our troops and since I was never murdered or a slave I can just get a job and earn my way in America...as an AMERICAN should. I have seen a transition from racism to reverse racism, after being given everything that has been demanded black people still need a reason to hate white people. I think it is even harder for honest hard working AMERICANS with dark skin to enjoy their equality when the gimme gimme portion of the race they belong to wont stop and they become part of that label.

Montel Williams said himself that 'Racism will go away when we stop talking about it'. I think it is time. There are so many nationalities in the United States that people need to realize that noone is any different than anyone else.

There is a justified reason to have Black History Month. For years the accomplishments, contributions, and suffering of African Americans has been trampled on by insensitive people.
For example, while Oklahoma freely allowed citizens to stake land tracts during the 1800's, the 9th & 10th Cavalry provided protection at the state line. Take the story of the 52nd Infantry during the Civil War, these events are not taught to the masses--Black Children must be taught the truth as Historians reveal it. There is a need to acknowledge what has been perpetrated against Blacks. Only through the revelation of truth will sacrifice, morality, and purpose be instilled in the minds of those that need to understand--how their ancestors faced oppression, inhumane treatment, racial tolerance, and slavery.
It is paradoxial---while America conveys a story of limited explaination---Black History conveys the hardships, abuse, strife and problematic nature of the African American experience.
In America---racism will never die. A nation that so easily wants to disregard the history of its most resilient people is a nation of cowardice and intolerance.
There is no equality---without reparations. If America could pay to rebuild Germany, France, Japan and load a C-130 with $1 Billion USD to shore up the Iraqi economy after deposing Saddam--and then lose it! Surely, African-Americans born between 1900-1964 can be paid reparations.
Those who fail to learn from History are doomed to repeat it!

No. I think instead we should have a 'history' for each month of the year:

White-Anglo History
Native American History
Black History
Asian-Pacific American History
etc etc

Of course, I also believe we should have the same catergories for other things to, such as beauty contests (Miss White-Anglo America, Miss Asian-Pacific America, etc), colliegiate preparedness groups (NAACP, NAAWAA, NAANA, NAAAPA, etc...)... Every race should have it's own celebrated identity...

Have always wondered this myself....since there is no equality. I don't see asian history month? latino? middle eastern? how about white-anglo month? wonder if our kids even know what white anglo is? Its disappointing that in thousands of years of existence we can't seem to grasp the joy of the journey and instead fight to be separate and above. Life would be much better lived in a circle than on a ladder....and there certainly be a lot more room for living.... but then those at the top, might have to share.....

lack of expertise, organic and easy. Ignorant people get extremely indignant whilst they are challenged to examine some thing new or attempt to place themselves in the region of yet another. Their lack of expertise additionally leads them to have self assurance Black history Month is a few sort of stable national holiday being forced on them. lack of expertise is an particularly unhappy ingredient, yet as you will see that right here on Yahoo! solutions it is no longer likely besides every time quickly.

African American history IS a part of American history. Black history month will always exist unless America learns how to be concerned with the benefactions of every race, not just the superior one.

This is a wonderful idea, but how will we motivate others? I think Black History month is significant because it spotlights those who are worthy. The same with women's history month. I agree, it's terrible, but some will never try to learn about others unless it's pushed under their noses!

Why bring logic into the debate?. When all they have to do is call you a racist. Sorta of like a conservative trying to debate a liberal with logic, it is not long before the liberal starts screaming nazi. Some things just won't change.
