Dont get me wrong im not all anti religion or any thing but i am curious as to why every one seems to believe that religion is a necesity in life. i myself was baptized catholic but i now call myself agnostic. agnostic means that i do not believe in just one religion, i have researched many religions and i believe that all have good principals that i like but there are still concepts that i dont like about the religions. I also believe that people dont need a religion to guide them, they need beliefs that they decide on for themselves and if there is a religion that follows their beliefs, not a person who believes in a religions beliefs. so if you could give me some prespective that would be great, but please dont try to convert me!

I dont have more than one religion, i like certain concepts of many religions but there are still concepts about them that act as a bigg enough counter weight.
like the fact that many people believe that if you dont believe in their religion then you should be converted or that you will go to a bad place.

I feel exactly the same way that you feel. If anything all religion does is divides and separates people.

Actually, you're not agnostic, but more a deist. An agnostic believe that there is not sufficient evidence to either believe or disbelieve in God. Belief that multiple religions may have truth places you more in line with Ba'hai (sp?) or even Unitarian-Universalism.

The hype is because many are convinced that they have the only right path and have some mission to convince everyone else of that position.

For me religion is a necessity because before I accepted God, I made a lot of wrong decisions and the effects of those decisions made me very unhappy. Once God was in my life I started to follow his way and my life and happiness improved.

Some people look for God because they feel a deep need within themselves, some people don't feel that need. Having once been an atheist, I think that people find God when or if they need to. Not everyone needs a God to follow a righteous path. I know it's not the conventional wisdom of the church but I still believe in live and let live.

I believe it's because of the movement to remove all religion from the public place that you see a rise in hype. The reason is because, per the Constitution, we have freedom OF religion NOT freedom From religion. People see their rights being dismissed and or stomped on.

btw:Catholic is a faith not just a church. There are many things wrong in all churches [they are made up of humans] but it is the faith that keeps one Catholic. It is the only religion with Jesus Christ as it's founder. All other Christian religions were spun off the Catholic faith.

Anybody can have religion that's simply a belief in SOMETHING. But to be a christian is to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Believe that God sent His son to earth to take away our sins, believe that he died and rose again, and repent of your sins and ask Him to come into your heart by faith. St. John 14:6 says: I am the way, the truth, and the life: "no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. So, Jesus Christ is the TRUTH experience it for yourself. You have a choice choose the right one no one can convert you or anyone else. But Jesus Christ is THE answer for the world today and forevermore!

I have no religion. I left that along time ago. I believe religions are man-made, a collections of traditions and beliefs that were designed to bring people closer to God. Religions are subject to be corrupted and are also subject to what people belief God would want.

I have faith. I follow no set of beliefs, no religion, no traditions, no books or sacred texts. None of that. I know God and talk to God - that's it.

People cling to religious beliefs because it gives them a way to live their lives. It gives them directions, and sometimes it helps take away responsibility. People often times need something solid and concrete to help them lead their lives. Or at least think they do.

Isnt religion based on belief? there is no use saying that you follow a religion when you really dont have faith in the basic beliefs...in every religion (all that i have heard of) there are some restrictions. it seems like these are the "concepts" that you dont like. Think about it.
Hope this helps.

The problem is that the religious and the antireligious choose this site to argue on. My personal belief is that evolution is true, but is part of God's plan. And, many scientists--in all fields of science, do practice various religions.

For those who have accepted Jesus as their Savior and put him in the center of their life, it is a big deal. If you believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, then it can't be just moderately important. If you love your neighbor as yourself, as the Bible says, you will try to help them come to know the peace of a life with Christ as the center.
