that definitely sounds like a hw question...earth goes through periods of heat loss and gain...the earth has seen at least 3 known ice ages followed by periods of global warming...each region is different depending on their proximity to the equator and the different seasons...you factor in things like the jet stream, varying thickness of the ozone layer, wind, oceanic currents, etc. and that's why the earth loses and gains heat at different rates throughout the year.
