The bible tells us that in the last days, great earthquakes will rock the world, but most of the millions would not know anything about it if they don't read the scientific journals or follow any news on it? Or if they hadn't heard the prophesy. So to answer your question, unless you spread the word (both of the impending doom and the biblical prophesy) you will never know if they will turn to God or not.

I don't know but this verse should guide us.

Ps 46:1 - 3 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

God does not cause these things to happen out of vengeance. But there is a natural balance to the planet and to maintain that balance great forces of nature are sometimes necessary. We simply need to keep focused on trusting God.

Well whether does it bring people closer to God and to their faith? Well it does bring people closer to God as much as people who thinks it unfair that God cause the earthquake fall out of their faith. ultimately why do people need an earthquake to bring them closer to God? since God is ever omnipresent whether in time of calamities or peace.
you need not wait because you never know the hour you might take your last breath.

Well, when people are afraid they may turn to that... but deities are not known for saving people from earthquakes.

I would rather find some peace with it in understanding the cycles of life and death, and have faith in continuance.

God gaves us a book that explained everytime a people, a city, a nation or a world got too evil He destroyed it. What could we say in defense of New Orleans? What can we say in defense of San Francisco? What can we say in defense of Hollywood? The Bible tells us that we will have more earthquakes and they will become more intense. I can give you something that I hold onto.........Psalm 23

the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures:
he leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
thou anoints my head with oil; my cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

I'll give you one more "No weapon formed against me shall prosper."

And one more "The Lord never leaves me nor forsakes me."

Trust in the Lord and He will make a way where there is no way.

In times of severe troubles, many start seeking.
Just exactly what one starts seeking depends on the individual.
Hopefully, it will bring them to where they need to be.

to quote the bible "there will be earthquakes one after the other" famine, men will be lovers of money, lovers of themselves, disrepectful.... these will be the signs of the beginning of the end. (Of the earth as we know it)
