The metabolic rate - the rate at which the body burns calories - is partly determined by the amount of muscle we have. In general, the more muscle we have, the higher our metabolic rate; the less muscle we have, the lower our metabolic rate. This explains why men, who have a high proportion of muscle, have a faster metabolism than women, and why a 20-year-old has a higher metabolism than a 70-year-old - again, they have more muscle.

Metabolism: the sum of the processes in the buildup and destruction of protoplasm; specifically : the chemical changes in living cells by which energy is provided for vital processes and activities and new material is assimilated.

The metabolism is what helps out with weight. It either goes super fast, which means someone is super skinny, or slow, which means someone is velumptuos (mom's word for chubby), or average... like most of us... well not in America, but you know what I mean.

Metabolism is how your body burns calories, like a car engine burns gasoline to power the car.Eating healthy food items keeps your body "running" like a race car that uses high octane gas. When you eat "junk food" the body won't operate well like a car using cheap or contaminated fuel.Read more on webmd. Take care. SW RNP

metabolism is like the energy are body uses, it's how fast our body can burn off energy, rather. so if someone has a higher metabolism then they would burn more faster then others who don't.
