The best approach is to see if his actions say the same thing.
Does he do little, extra things for you that make you happy?
Does he sacrifice for your relationship?
Does he call you sometimes just to tell you that he's thinking about you?
Does he tell his family and friends that he loves you, too?
That last one is a big deal. A lot of guys like to say they love girls, but then, when they're around home or around their friends, they tell a different story.

Usually when someone says they love you, they mean it! If he hasn't said it to you before then he's not just saying it now! Unless he says it like he's dragging it out of himself or with no meaning in his voice! If you love him say it back, but don't just say it back so he doesn't feel hurt.

well ... love ... can be a word , can be a proposal , can be a dream ,can be a way to live ... love is also an attitude...towards someone you care enough to...actually love ...
what love means in your mind and his is important , ask him what is love ..in your opinion,why you love me...? you will get some interesting answers that will also help you determine somehow the depth and genuineness of the reason to say it..

actually sometimes that word is the most abused word used by men.. but just beware not everyone who says I love you is saying it sincerely. the best thing to test a man's love for a girl is let time pass and from time to time you'll know wether or not he means what he says..... : )

If you told him you'd have sex with him if he said it then he's probably "just saying it"..... but aside from that what reason would he have to "just say it" to you & not mean it? Aside from maybe he just didn't want to hurt your feelings... but then, if that was the case why would he have said it first?
Judging by how you described the events i would say he means it. :-)

if he looked deep into ur eyes and said it without trying 2 fool a round with u than i think he does u also have to trust him and see how he behaves if he is lookin another girls than i dont think he does but if he is always thinkin about u by sayin sweet stuff or wantin to spend time with u on his spare time than i think he definitely cares about u.

1- YOU can feel it according to the nature and depth of your relationship, and only you.
2- Time has always been the ultimate judge to prove feelings true of fake.

Well if you guys have been dating awhile, then he probably does. If you have only been seeing each other a week, then I would think he doesn't really know what love means.
