Overdrive is for normal driving. You turn it off when you're towing heavy loads...or if you want to smoke your tires ;-).

Leave it in overdrive all the time. The vehicle will decide if it is needed. I agree, turn it off if you are towing. It saves fuel when in O/D the wheels are turning faster then the transmission and engine.

you use overdrive when you reach a speed over about 45 or 50...

My cars (Toyota Tundra and Camry) do a very good job of selecting the appropriate gear at any speed, so I leave it turned on all the time.

when going over 50 mph always when on freeway do not use when in town driving or stop and go
