you have either inflammation of the gum ( gingivitis), or you may have pockets.
you better visit your dentist.
if the problem is just gingivitis he will give you only antibiotics, if it is pockets he will do some minor procedure to you, it is not painful and take about 10 minutes.

Sounds like periodontal gum disease. Wash your mouth out with 3% hydrogen peroxide several times a day. You can use a cross the counter product called Glyoxide but the cheap stuff works as well. Good Luck and God Bless

It could be a gum infection, or it could be you have some piece of food stuck under the gum line where you can't get it out. The dentist would be able to get it out with his instrument. I have often had popcorn shells get stuck between my tooth and gum and it is so painful. Once I couldn't get it out by myself and had to go to a dentist to have it removed.

you might have a cavity or your tooth just became more sensitive, try using toothpaste that says on it for sensitive teeth, this should help reduce the sensitivity of your tooth, if it doesn't work go to ur dentist

You may have an absess under the gum. Don't wait until it is excrutiating. Get to your dentist while it's still bearable.

It sounds like an inflammation. Take some ibuprofen, it will help for the swelling. Call your dentist.
