I have mild gingivitis in my gums and i find it quite painful. As soon as I got it, I started flossing and brushing continuously, how long should I wait before going to the dentist/hygienist again (went the other day) and is the process of removing inflammation painful?

Thanks

Conor

depends on the severity. did you just get a regular cleaning the other day?
i had a deep cleaning a year and a half ago and it really wasn't that bad. sort of weird feeling but not overly painful. they numbed my mouth with a couple of shots (always the most painful part in my opinion) and then they did their thing. it is just what it sounds like - a more intense cleaning.
after the deep cleaning they request that you come in more frequently (every 3 months in my case) for regular cleanings for a while. if you take good care of it, you will probably go back to your regularly cleaning schedule eventually.
you may want to add some sort of mouth rinse to the equation. try crest pro health or maybe ask your dentist if you should use something more powerful like Periomed. I use Periomed and damn, it cleans your mouth out.
other things that i have heard are good for gum health are CoQ10 and Vitamin C.
Good luck!

gingivitis is caused by poor oral hygiene, that you are now flossing and brushing is a good thing, but it is also necessary to have your teeth deep cleaned by the dental hygienist. This involved scraping collected tartar from below the gums on the roots of the teeth, and yes it can be quite uncomfortable, depending on how much tartar is built up. The dentist can of course numb your gums for you if you find the process too uncomfortable. From now on, maintain good oral hygiene and you won't have to go thru this again.
