I'm going to get my hair highlighted for the first time and I want to know if anyone has recommendations regarding full or partial foil and any mistake-avoiding tips before I go and get it done.

The difference between a full and a partial is the amount of your head covered in foils. Generally when you're getting a partial, you wouldn't be going all the way down the back of the head. This creates a darkness underneath the hair. This doesn't matter to some people; if they never wear their hair up or don't mind the darkness when it's pulled up. At our salon, we don't necessarily make people decide on a full or partial when first making their appointment- they have a chance to discuss the pros and cons of each during their consultation before the foils are applied.
Make sure during the consultation that you and your stylist both understand what you're looking for in your finished result (as far as heaviness of the weave). It might be helpful to bring pictures of color effects that you like to give her a good idea. Good luck!

first time go partial and NATURAL.
some stylists think that unless it's done heavy it's not worth the price, but i think that as long as it looks natural and can grow out if you don't like it then it's worth the price.
if you get a partial and it's done heavy then you'll end up looking like you had a partial foil done heavy and it's a BTCH to grow out or to have it colored back to natural. it never will look natural if it's done heavily.

if you wear your hair in a ponytail ask to have the whole hairline done. sometimes this is all that's needed for a 'pick me up'.

i would get the partial foil if this is your first time, then after you see how it looks you can decide if you want more
