You will have some pain for a couple days after the braces but ibuprofen works well for my son when he got his and we gets new pieces put on etc. For foods he sticks to things like soups and mashed potatoes when his teeth are sore. At the orthodontist ask him WHAT he recommends for pain and WHAT DOSEAGE he recommends. I let my kids take up to a prescription dosage of ibuprofen if they feel they need it but then they are teens and I am a nurse and monitor things so ask your orthodonist what med and how much recommends. Good Luck.

My sister recently got braces. She got the top and bottom done at different times. She said that during the process it didn't really hurt, there was just a lot of pressure on her mouth, but later that day and the next couple of days they were sore. She said it was mostly when she wanted to eat that they were the sorest, but she just took Tylenol xtra strength and it eased the pain. She ate a lot of soft foods for the few days after that her braces were sore.
Also, every time they tighten her braces they get sore as well. The best thing I can tell you to do is just stock up on Tylenol and eat stuff like mashed potatoes, ice cream, soups, and pastas. Good luck!

You will be sore 1-3 days. Take aspirin to help with the pain. Make sure you check for sharp edges before you leave. Orthodontist will, but double check (use your tongue). Everytime they tighten them they will be sore. This soreness goes away. Brush well, and use a mouthwash. Ask ortho. what is good brand at your age. Some have alcohol and you prob. shouldn't use them. You will get used to them, then they come off. You will look wonderful. You'll be OK. Get a mouthguard if you play sports

Make sure all the brackets are in place and make sure the dentist has some kind of pain sybol or regignition because then you can tell him if it hurts you. Nothing will hurt you might just feel a little tightness! GGOODD LUCk

when they are putting it on, it will not really hurt. but prepare for the following day. you will feel really bad, your teeth are going to be sore for like a week. after about a month though, you barely notice that you have them in your mouth.
BEST OF LUCK!! :-)
