About 20% of the cost of your haircut's a good rule of thumb.

For a $14 cut, I would suggest a $5 tip. Anywhere from $20 or higher a $10 tip.

The 'rule' is 15%-20, depending on the time spent and how you like what they did. On $14, that's roughly $2-3. That should be fine, esp. for a discount hair salon. You can tip more, of course, your call. I personally would tip $3-4, but that's just me. But you must tip, always. And no, it's not a insult to tip less than $5. That's bunk.

Getting a great haircut is essential to how you look, so if your person does a good job, I'd give him/her a 20% tip.
So, if the haircut cost $14.00, then 20% would be $2.80. I'd be a "big spender" and throw in the extra 20 cents and make the tip an even $3.00. Remember, this is your hair we're talking about. Total cost = $17.00 (which is very reasonable these days!).
Of course, if the haircut is just mediocre, give 10% or $1.50. And then maybe look for a new place.
Good luck!!

it depends on the job and how much the hair cut costs. for a 14 dollar one at fantastic sams i would only tip like 3.
now i get mine done and the total is like 150 so i tip about 20 bucks.
kind of like when you tip at a restaurant.
if they do a good job tip well if they do a crappy job don't tip

Tipping was 15% but lately, I read that now it's 18% to 20%, that goes for hair services, pizza delivery, dining out, etc. If you tip 15% for a $14.00 haircut, the tip would be $2.10 & 20% would be $2.80. You can tip more if you are really happy with the services or less if you're not.

I use a unisex shop. They used to have a different person who washed my hair, and another did the cutting. The haircuts used to be $10 and have gone up to $12. I tipped the hair washer $1 and the cutter $2. These days the cutter also washes, so I tip her $3

For that level of hair cut and price, $5. In this day and age the lowest tip anyone in the service industry should receive is $5

I tip approx 15% when I have my hair done. So $2 would be good for a $14 hair cut.

First off, remember that you tip a hairstylist & colorist just as you would a server in a restaurant: If the service is excellent, then you tip 20%, if the service is good 15% and so on.
