Cats, especially male cats get over stimulated very easily when they are being petted or when you play with them.
Avoiding rubbing their tummy's for more than just a few seconds..for some reason that seems to be the worst area for over stimulation.
I asked my Vet about it one time and he told me it's common in all male cats, neutered or un-neutered..so it's not a sexual over stimulation.

Depends on how he's biting. If he's doing it to hurt you then he's telling you he's had enough. There are better ways to get the message across of course, but some cats just expect you to know.
One of my cats plays a little game, she looks at us all lovey and will come over to be pet and then when we reach out a hand she'll attack it. Good thing the bird is not as stupid as we are.
My other cat gives "love bites" which hurt like crazy but we can tell he can't even control the urge to bite. He'll bite whatever is close, an eyebrow, finger, nose, he's not fussy. It's just his way of saying "I love you"

When your cat lets you pet it for a little while and then bites you. It is considered a kiss. Does your cat give you a little nip or a big nip? When they do this that is considered a cat kiss. That is their way of showing that they care about you and that they love you. I got this information from an aunt of mine. She owns two cats herself. Just don't let them bite you to hard because they can break the skin where every they bit you. So be very careful when they do this. Sometime they will break the skin and it could hurt. I have two cats myself and they will do this to me and my mom too.

Your cat is enjoying being petted and then he is turning to you to play. The way a cat plays is to bite. He is not being nasty, he is merely trying to play. If you watch two cats play you will notice that they always bite each other. They will usually wait for one to pass the other and then pounce and take a big bite, then roll over and continue to bite. It's play. As you are the replacement for another cat and playmate, the cat automatically bites you.

Your cat is telling you that he's had enough. He is not being mean, it's just his way of both playing and letting you know. When they do this, most cats will wiggle or shake their tail at the point when they become annoyed. You have about 1 second to back off. This is common and is really nothing to worry about. He still loves you, but on his terms.

I acquired a female cat when she was about 4 yrs. old..when her elderly human male owner passed away. She was like that, but I learned that she and her owner played a little game...he'd pet her then kinda gently put his hand over her mouth & head...he wasn't mean..just his way of playing with her I heard. She has gradually grown out of this..she is now about 12 yrs. old. But cats are independent and aloof and persnickity if you will. That's just the way some are.

My calico bites too, but it's never that hard. If she bit hard, I would think that she was mad or annoyed, but since it's always a light bite, I think she just does it to show affection. I noticed that when she is cuddled up with my other cat they often lick and bit each other in a friendly way, so when she does it to me, I think she is just saying she accepts me like another cat. :)
