My husband smokes and I am very much afraid that no matter how much I spray my home it will still bother her. Does anybody have any really good advice on how to get rid of this smell without having to toss my husband out of the house.

My in-laws are huge smokers and decided they didn't want the house to smell anymore...moved the smoking outside. It took a good 6 months of commited cleaning to get the smell out.

As the mother of children with diagnosed tobacco allergies:
No amount of spraying perfumes, deodorizers, antibacterials or anything else will remove the toxins that come from tobacco smoke. Plus, spraying them can increase her allergies, especially if she has asthma. Only stopping the smoking indoors for a minimum of 3-6 months (depending on how much smoke is in the environment, such as if the walls and ceilling are yellow) while intensely cleaning EVERYTHING will allow your grandchild a safe visit. Depending on how cooperative your husband is, you are probably better off going on an outing together away from his smoke.

Hello
Make sure the house is aired out (how would you do this? Open windows at certain times to allow for ventilation) Purchase Fabreeze (air freshner that eliminates odors not one that just masked the smell ) to get the smell of smoke out of the house.

Make sure you have no animals in the house, find out from her parents what indoor and outdoor allergies she has and what you can do just in case something triggers an allergic attack. Also find out what medictions she takes, but just as a precaution purchase some "children's benedryll" to have on hand.

Good luck, hope this helps

Spray a lot of oust (air nuetralizer) ...the day before and the day of the visit.

And ask Grandpa not to smoke in the house for a while before or during the visit.

You could also ask him to start smoking outside! My husband and I are smokers and we go out to smoke! Your ceilings and walls will keep much better - Not to mention the SMELL

You can get some fabreeze microbacterial and help eliminate some of the odor that way, but without washing every bit of fabric and the carpet its still going to be there. The best bet would be to treat the allergies with something like claritin for children or something along those lines. Good luck!

Buy an air purifier, open the window..wash the curtains.... Clean everything really well... Maybe plan a day that it is nice out and you can spend time outside w/ her...Overnighters might be out of the question...Is your husband her biological grandpa?? If so, he should be willing to go outside to smoke if an upcoming visit is planned so that the house can be cleaned...

Open up all the windows and let your house air out and tell your husband to smoke outside.
