Will I have to expedite my passport if my trip is in july?

If not how long is it going to take to get one?

A USA passport takes 6-8 weeks unless you expedite at an extra cost. If expedited you would receive it in two weeks. On the US State Department's website you can check your passport application status and it will tell you when to expect your passport in the mail.

That should be plenty of time if you have already applied. If you wait, you will be in competition with everyone who wants to travel this summer. However, it would not hurt to call the passport office and ask if they have received your application and when you might could expect your passport. I don't know of any means to expedite, but be nice and courteous. People will work with you more so if you are nice and courteous.

Due to the high demand of passports right now they are averaging more around 10 weeks to get. I would suggest that you apply soon if your are traveling in July. You can get all of the information you need here:

February-April is the busiest time of year for Passport Services, with Americans planning spring break and summer trips. The best advice is, “Apply Early!” Or even “now’” if you might be checking out deals on airfare or hotels outside the U.S.

If you have already applied but will not need your passport within the next two weeks:

Checking the status of your application: You can check the status of your application online. Currently, it is taking up to 7 days for Expedited Applications and up to 3 weeks for Routine Applications to be tracked online. Please allow that much time before contacting us to check on your application.
