No. They say drink it right away, because you are suppose to drink it right after a work out. Drinking it hours after a good lift won't do much for satisfying those muscles who no longer crave high protein levels.
When you lift, you actually tear muscle fibers which repair over night (Hence your muscles sometimes being sore after a hard workout) Protein shakes won't do much if your muscles no longer crave more protein.
*Note: I'm not saying protein shakes prevent muscle pain the next day. They only give your muscles the supplements they need.

The whole objective is to get it down right after a lifting session to bolster the proteins in your system in order to get maximum rebuilding. Even this theoretical need has not been verified. See link to article below.
Protein shakes are nothing more than an expensive convenience. You get more than enough protein in your normal diet without supplements. If you ate a meal immediately after a workout with decent protein content, it would have the same effect.

I use the Isopure Whey Protein powder ever since I had weight loss surgery. The rule on MIXED protein drinks is to mix up NO MORE then you can drink in 30 minutes. Because protein is what the scientists use to grow bacteria IN THE LAB !! It grows it REALLY WELL ! If you let it sit, even covered in the fridge; it will gather nasties and start that process...and WHO wants to drink THAT ?!?!?!

If it is refrigerated or otherwise kept cold, it is okay. If it is not, it is bad because it could attract bacteria. Bacteria that feed on protein do not care if the protein comes from dairy products or human tissue. This is why protein eating bacteria such as salmonella are so lethal.

If it has live enzymes then you do need to drink it within 10 minutes of making it.
The protein shakes I am familiar with do have live enzymes. They die after 10 minutes or so.
Live enzymes are good for your digestion.

if u put milk in it and leave it sitting out but other than that it is ok. it says that because the whey gets into your system immediately which your muscles need after a hard workout

The product may become 'bad' in that bacteria and stuff would grow in it unless you kept it cold. Also the shake may thicken too much or become real gritty.

That's just so it doesn't settle.
Just shake it up again before you drink it.
