We really don't know what's going on... in August, he had west nile virus, but he got over it. Ever since then, however, he's had periodical problems with random swelling. One day his thumb will be huge, then the next day his knee will be huge. We think we've narrowed it down to him only swelling when he takes pain relievers... so yesterday when he got his braces tightened, my mom gave him a non-ibuprofen pain reliever to see if that would work, but just hours later, his chin swelled up. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?

What makes you think he hasn't seen a doctor? What the doctor recommended hasn't worked. For God's sake... why do you think we wouldn't have taken him to the doctor?

You'd be amazed how many people ask medical question on here instead of going to the doctor.

I'm with everyone else who said it sounds like an allergy. Have an allergy specialist do a battery of tests to determine what he's reacting to. It may be a temporary sensitivity but it's a dangerous one. Don't keep giving him what he's reacting to unless your are in the presence of a doctor or medical staff.

I'm so happy your brother survived and have great hopes for his continuing recovery. You're a good sister.

Hes definitely allergic to something. I know you have already taken him to a doctor, but in his case I would take him to a specialist, who can find what in his life he is allergic to, and try to narrow down the possible sources of his inflammation problem. I hope he gets better soon!

This sounds like a allergic reaction to either something he is eating or a side effect of medication. You should have little bro see a doctor and check what he is eating.
