2 years ago when i quit smoking i trained consistently for 6 months with a pick of 30 miles per week and run a 5k in 18:20 then stopped running coz i had a stress fructure. i picked up smoking again and after i quit again. the first day after quit i ran a 5k in 21.5minutes. i was not training though i want to start training and pick at 40 miles per week.

um...I'm not sure but you really do have to quit smoking because it slows down your motor functions..I think and it's bad for you lungs..But if you keep training then your lungs might get used to it and you might be able to do it.

the longer you don't smoke, the better your lungs will get. keep up the training and you'll be able to run the 5k.

15 minutes is pretty freakin fast. If you've never even got close before, doing it after years of heavy smoking isn't likely.

Your lungs will work at a lower capacity, so you'll have to breathe harder, but it should be doable, just know your limit.

Also talk to your doctor, make sure you're not doing any harm.

It makes as much sense as you trying to run with tacks in your shoes. You can probably do it but you will really be hurting yourself if you do.

yep. my dad is a marathon runner and smokes like a chimney...he does fine
