It's my husband's b-day tomorrow and I'm making steak, potatoes, salad. What would go good w/it for drinks?

Well you want to complement the meal so stick with beer or wine as mixed drinks are powerful in flavor and will detract from the flavor of the dinner. For beer, I recommend a lager like Sam Adams or an amber beer, for wine its your call what reds you like (reds aren't as crisp as whites and are "heavier" to complement the fats in the steak and cleanse the palat). My personal (and relatively inexpensive) picks are
cabernet - Rodney Strong
zinfandel (not to be confused with white zinfandel which is a blush) - Ravenswood
merlot - sorry, no pick - I'm not partial to merlots

If you want more alcohol (ie mixed drinks) have cocktails before or after dinner. I think a couple of bourbon and gingers primes me for a really good meal!

normally I would say a good beer or a nice cabernet sauvignon. Right now I am loving some wines from ARgentina and Chile in south america. There is a great wine from Argentina called El Felino. I got a bottle at Bevmo I think. It is a tempranillo or a malbec. Wonderful red.

Or you could do a nice australian Shiraz. That goes great with BBQ steak.

Either a Cab Sauv, Merlot, Meritage, or Syrah. Something big and bold to complement the fatty red meat aspect of steaks. If you don't like red wines, a big dry white wine will also work such as a bold Chardonnay. Just don't serve it ice cold. 1 hour in the fridge before serving is perfect for the Chardonnay in this case. This goes for any of the reds in any case. Usually for whites, if using a fridge, you keep them in the fridge overnight and take them out 1 hour prior to drinking to leave at room temperature, but with red meat, you just want a slight chill to it.

Before dinner, anything goes. A good brew or vodka martini would work.

I love it when people just answer "red wine". There's a lot of red wine choices out there! My favorite red wine is a pinot noir. It's light and has the texture of silk - yummy! A shiraz/syrah would go nicely as well as it has a peppery taste to it. If your husband does not like wine you can always go with beer - I think an amber would go nicely...

Well... I'm a wine drinker and I know for beer and wine you go with a heavier selection... so I'm going to say something fairly heavy... like cola or root beer maybe?

If you don't want red wine [Cabernet Sauvignon for example] then serve Jack Daniels or Maker's Mark or Knob Creek
