I am a Christian, but I am realizing that all of the "saving" powers are within and not external. So the belief in the divine may be misplaced, but the need for God and religion in society appears strong still. I once asked the Elders of a church, Do you obey God for fear of hell or for some other reason? Most replied that the fear of hell was the primary factor, and that the reward of heaven was the chief motivator. Thus organized religion rose up to tell us our progress regarding heaven and hell. Such cannot disappear until men value the mortal blessings of good works and curses of evil more than the post-mortal rewards of heaven and punishment of hell.

Good point. But more than the "organized" needs to go - we need a sea-change around mind-set as well before open-mindedness is possible. We are all truly one people.
