You also may not have enough room on your hard drive. If your hard drive is close to being full, then you need to make some space. I dont remember what the exact amount required is though. It is a certain % of your hard drive, maybe 10 or 15%.

The hard drive may have errors on it. That needs to be fixed first. This is done with dskchk. Go to start, run, type dskchk/f and enter. This will check and fix your hard drive. Then you can run defrag afterwards.

defrag may not be able to run if you have too little disk space free. It needs some free space to move your files around.
