And restores everything.

I would say no. In most respects, religion is actually the preventor of violence and hatred in this world. Without religion, we would not have the amazing organizations for natural disaster relief, a peace about the afterlife, or the other blessings that come as a result of spirituality. The only time a conflict happens is when one group discriminates against another group. What needs to end, therefore, is not the believers, but those who hate and discriminate.
Look at the KKK. At first, many of their tirades were on African Americans. However, when in the 1920s the movement shifted slightly from the South to the Midwest, its members began to target immigrants as well. Hate groups will always target something...getting rid of the good in this world will never eliminate the bad. It will only allow it to dominate and thrive.

First of all, religion can't be "eliminated". It's a human instinct, just like eating and breathing and sex. The human imagination has always pushed us to wonder why we are here on earth. If anyone tried to eliminate it, it would not work. Case in point is the Soviet Union. Religion was dissallowed (I believe Stalin called it the "opium for the masses"). The moment Communism fell, the Orthodox Christian religion in Russia was as popular as ever. Second, why would you want to eliminate religion? It shows that you are lacking in knowledge of what religious messages are. Basically, whether it be Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist or otherwise, every religious faith says the same basic messages, although in different terminology and with local details that differ. And the purpose of religion has always been to clarify the mind from ignorance and to raise consciousness. In simple terms, religions all tell us to be compassionate to each other and all living beings since we are all made of the same mystery that shaped the universe, call it what you will, God, Allah, Mohammed, etc. Third, try eliminating ignorance, not religion. Most "religious wars" are inspired by political motives. The only way profit-hungry leaders (who are certainly ignorant of the symbolic meaning of religion) can stir masses into action against other groups is to divide them by religion, as that is a basic and necessary need of the human heart. These leaders and their cronies then reap profits from military weapons sales, and gain political power, among other things. Religion has always been and always will be for the good of humanity. Suggestion to beat ignorance: read all the main religious texts (Koran, Bible, Khabbala, Dhammapada, etc) and compare for yourself. If that's too hard, read basic overviews of the religions. Recommended authors: Huston Smith, Krishnamurti, Joseph Campbell, Wayne W. Dyer and Deepak Chopra. Eliminating religion is like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Keep the good, which is the message of compassion for all living beings, and eliminate the bad, which is the destructive darkness of human ignorance.

A quick perusal of the Prophetic books such as Revelation, will point out very quickly that there is a coming one world church along with a one world government. It's happening quickly as a daily reading of news will attest.

In the spring of '08 all American will have a chip placed in their drivers license containing all information on them. Already a family in Florida is using ARM implanted chips containing all of their information as an experiment towards congresses mandated goal of implanting every person in America. Without this chip, you will not be able to buy nor sell.

That is what the bible says, as well. BUT NOTE THIS: It is all being done in the name of anti terrorism. We have lost freedom that our forefathers fought and died for. You and I can have our homes invaded without a hearing before a judge simply because so and so thinks something is wrong in our homes. Say the word terrorist and become investigated. I sent an email to a friend and the subject was on terrorism. It was caught by 'someone' and instantly marked as spam. In fact, the email was pro government supporting certain actions a the time.

So you see, a one world church or no church, will have no practical implication in world peace.

THERE WILL NOT BE LASTING PEACE, ONLY A TEMPORARY PEACE BEFORE HELL BREAKS LOOSE AND THEN THE RETURN OF THE MESSIAH.

So beware of a man who comes proclaiming peace. There will not be world wide peace until all peoples are brought together by God Himself.

No, contrary to many peoples "opinions" religion is not the primary cause of many or even most wars. It often is a easy way to gain public support but is not the primary factor. This is true of most, if not all, wars through out history.

I think that some people will always need religion and that in many cases it is a help to them. In a sense all people, societies, cultures, and religions need to mature to the point where violence, intolerance and racism are unacceptable.

There's more to it than just religion, and honestly even if we did eliminate religion people would just find something else to manipulate to their own purposes. The only thinhg that can bring about world peace is tolerance, and that's not something you can force on someone it's a mind set.

Yes. You would end religion by removing all subsidies it currently enjoys. It would be treated as a business selling a product. It would no longer be incorporated into peoples daily lives by printing its slogans on our money. Religions typically spend 10% of their income on "good works" while the other 90% goes to perpetuate the organization and its businesses. There would be an immediate return to humane society as those wanting to help the poor would funnel their money to organizations that would get a better return on their donations. You cannot outlaw thought but you don't have to subsidize it.

Not likely. Religion is not the cause of war. War is always about resources. As long as Country A wants what Country B has, we will have war. Religion is a very effective way of selling the idea of war, but other means can always be found, such as "patriotism" and "freedom" and all those other exciting abstract nouns.

No, unfortunately religion is not the only thing that divides humans from one another. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't continue to work toward peace and mutual understanding.

no, not total peace. we'd start wars over which end of a boiled egg should be opened. religion is a very efficient mechanism for the propagation of violence and bigotry though, because ultimately they can only establish their truth by faith and as an argument cannot be satisfactorily be settled on the basis of faith that leaves a lot of room for it to be settled by violence. i see the literalists not only read bibles literally but also questions on Yahoo.

Religion is not the problem... people are. People like to find an excuse for whatever they do, to pass on the reponsibilty... if they hate America they say it's the Koran... if they hate the Koran they say they're freedom lovers and religion is evil. Man is the root of the problem, not religion.
