I have 4 cats that are indoor/outdoor cats. I live on the edge of a town in Germany with wide open fields behind my house. I also have a "cat door" installed in one of my windows so I don't have to wake up in the middle of the night to let a cat in or out.

A strange cat arrived a few weeks ago. He (it's definetly a HE by the size of his balls) is VERY loud and sprays everywhere. He will get on my balcony in the middle of the night, spray, complain, and fight with my cats. I have even caught him in my house a couple of times.

I can't get him to go away. I have tried everything I can think of without harming the cat. I want to catch him and take him to the Tierschutzverein (animal shelter), but he is very shy of people. I have tried getting some tranquilizer from my vet, locked my cats in for the night (man they were mad at me), and left food on the balcony but he wouldn't eat it.

Any suggestions on how to either catch the cat without harming it or make it go away?

We'll, I don't want to keep him. I'm sure he doesn't have an owner because here in Germany 99% of cats have ear tattoos. I don't want a control agency to catch him either because they will hurt and scare him. I just want to get him fixed and then they can find him a nice home. He seems like a good cat, just doesn't match my 3 black and 1 black and white :-)

see if you can get a humane trap for cats and put some wet food in there. most cats can't resist it. do you have a femal in heat. he will most likely come around to be near her.

You could get a magnetic cat flap which can only be activated by a piece on the collar of each of your own cats. It would at least keep him out of your house.

If you really want him to go away don't encourage him by leaving food where he can get it.

Be careful if you do get near enough to catch him, he would probably be very scared and scratch you, so make sure you have thick clothes and gloves on!

The best thing to do would be to have him neutered and release him back into the wild, it would be next to impossible to find a home for him. Once neutered that should cut down on the agression and spraying, he may move off altogether then.

First you can make sure you have a litterbox in the house and shut the cat door at night. Confine your cats to a room if they don't like it or start to complain. They'll get over it.

Use a "live" trap to catch this cat so you can take it to the animal shelter.

If you can't do that a good blast with a hose can work wonders during the day. There are also "scarecrow" sprinklers you can get that are motion activated, which would work at night. When the cat gets in range, he'd get "watered".

Do you like dogs?

Feeding the cat, only makes him stay. The cat has adopted your home. Maybe for the kitties inside, or you. I think mostly its the kitties. Since you have already been feeding him, continue to do so, but only this time set up a live animal trap. Then take the cat to a shelter. If it is that you are starting to like the cat; use the trap, and get him fixed. He will stop spraying and crying out so loudly.

I have had a similar problem. Yes it is a good idea to try to make your cats stay in. Try to coax him toward you a little more everyday. Don't call anyone else like am animal shelter to try to do it because the poor animals could get scared. Also don't try to make it go away unless you are sure he has an owner because he might need to see a vet.Hope it all works out!

There is an old wives tale that says if a cat takes up residence at your house it is a sign of good luck. Maybe you shouldn't worry so much about whether or not he matches your other cats. Being a cat owner myself, I know that sometimes we don't choose our cats, they choose us. It sounds to me like this cat has chosen you. Keep trying to feed him and see if he learns to trust you.

Put one of those cage traps on your balcony. Maybe he'll go in it exploring and then it will catch him. Or try shooting it with a tranquilizer. I certainly would not want a cat like that getting in my house.

Maybe in time he will trust you enough to come closer to you, then take him to a shelter. Or you can take him to get neutered at a vet and then possibly consider adopting him. He seems to be getting attached to you and your home and having him neutered will stop the howling and spraying and he could become a very nice pet to have around.

Get a live trap and use some very succulent bait. Make him an offer he can't refuse.
