Vista is cumbersome and buggy. I like some of the features, but it is just impracticle unless you have a very new computer. Also, not everything has drivers compatible with Vista.

This is an example of a "bleeding edge" experience. You have a brand new operating system. Many devices like printers do not have drivers yet to work with Vista. The good news is that printers are cheap. You can contact the printer company to see if they have a Vista compatible driver yet, or buy a new printer.

I am sorry that you are having problems but Windows Vista is already known to have way too many bugs and problems especially with supporting hardware and especially with printers.
The sad thing is that right now you really don't have a choice about your operating system when buying a new PC.
Even if you return it and tell them that you don't want Vista, you are going to get Vista anyway because Microsoft currently controls that market.
Your only other option is to wait for Dell to offer PCs with Linux installed or move up to Mac.
Mac is really good but quite frankly I am not a really big fan of Mac (I don't know why) even though all of my friends have abandon using Windows and have moved to Mac.

the reason you can't get you printer to work is you haven't any vista printer drivers go to the printer manufacturers website and look for support and downloads to see if they've released vista drivers yet if not you'll have to keep an eye on it
The trouble with vista at the moment is it's to buggy and not enough software is available to run on it plus a lot of older software just won't run on it

remove all the printer drivers and reload again - check the printer manufacturers website to see if there is an updated or vista driver for your printer.

Alternatively if your printer is relatively old buy a new Vista compatible one.
