United Nations Institute for Research & Training
It is an autonomous unit of UN established in 1963 by resolution of General Assembly. It began operations in 1965
It prepares students especially from developing countries for service within the structure of UN & its affilated agencies or home governments. It also conducts research on economic & social problems within the UN sphere, often in co-operation with universities & other institutions. Financed by voluntary contributions from governmental & non governmental sources
it has difficulty in obtaining adequate funding for the programs
It is headed by an executive director apponted by UN secretary general & confirmed by General Assembly. Its headquarters is in Geneva.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) was established in 1965 as an autonomous body within the United Nations with the purpose of enhancing the effectiveness of the Organization through appropriate training and research. UNITAR is governed by a Board of Trustees and is headed by an Executive Director. The Institute is supported by voluntary contributions from governments, intergovernmental organizations, foundations, and other non-governmental sources.
