The FCC made these laws that said that all TV's manufactured after a certain date and above a certain size must have a tuner that can pick up ota digital signals. Most people would never use them as they have satellite or cable HD boxes, but they're still required. So the TV manufacturers said, okay we'll gut the tuners altogether and call it an HD MONITOR so they can keep the price low. And that's what you've got there. ;-)

Now for your solution, you can do a couple things. The cheapest thing since you say it'd be hard for you to get a cable box, like an HD cable box, you can use a VCR as a tuner. VCR's all have built in analog cable/antenna tuners and have composite video output. Watch TV through your VCR and you'll be okay, although it won't be in HD, but at least it will work. The other option would be to get an HD box. They make them that get over the air HD and also compatible with the unencrypted digital cable channels (standard and HD) so you never know what kind of channels you could pick up off of the basic cable that they're not scrambling, and best of all it will be better quality than analog. At the very least, you could stick a pair of rabbit ears on it and get your local channels in HD. They have one of these at Best Buy and it's $180

Nothing. You have to use cable in order to get HDTV on your HDTV compatable T.V. The Industry (networks) are not yet producing enough in HD. Therefore you would have to use adapters from the cable company and their box. I work for Comcast... You can buy hdmi cords, but no one supports that hook up yet either so you would have to purchase addtional cords or adapter for these extras. Looks like someone is upgrading to the Digital Cable.

If you want HDTV for all your channels then you need to get an HD cable box from your service provider. They can talk you through that. Then if you want games hooked up in 1080i or 1080p you can buy HD component cables or the HDMI cord and plug them in.

If you bought a HDTV, then you want a HD signal. To get that signal, you need a box by your provider. Just make sure the HDTV box you buy has a HDMI input.
