Well, that's a good question. Abraham and Isaac didn't ask Him for a name. Moses wanted a sign or logos so that when he went back to the Israelites in bondage they would know he really did talk to God. Not some false god named Baal or one of the Egyptian gods. But the real God who said: I Am Who Am. There is only One God who existed eternally, and who made all things. The others came about in Genesis Chapter 6 where the devil convinced the fallen angels to mate with women. That's why it says in the Book of Jude that the fallen angels (demons) are chained in hell. Apparently impersonating a deity is a crime. And since we can't see these persons, I guess you can see why it is a crime. They take advantage of our weakness. So, the true God, wants us not to be enslaved to them through hedonism, occultism, drugs or any other bad way of life. And God does not rest while trying to wrestle those things away from us.

Jesus reveals himself slowly in the Jewish Scriptures-to Abraham at his almost sacrificing his son-God said "I will provide myself a sacrifice" and for the time being there was the ram caught for Abraham to slay

as a Jew i let Jesus into my heart to forgive my sins and help me

he has many names-the good shepherd, the Messiah, etc

G-d has 72 names in the bible. He doesn't tell them all to anyone. If you read the scripture carefully (and hopefully in Hebrew) you will see what is really going on there. Especially about the name he does give Moses.

When my kids were babies, I didn't tell them a lot about the world, what would be the point? I was mom to them, I did not tell them my proper name. That was all they needed at the time, besides milk and pablum.

Names are too confining. God is everywhere. Would you feel more comfortable calling Him Tom, Dick or Harry? Perhaps you also call Queen Elizabeth "Lizzy?"

"I am that I am"; what more do you need to know? Says it all, if you ask me.
