Because his followers claimed he was something he wasn't... divine.

Heck, even his earliest followers didn't do it... the idea of Jesus being one-in-three of the Trinity was all Paul's doing.

I've mocked Paul, never Jesus. Paul clearly had different ideas on his mind than Jesus did. It's like the difference between Ted Haggart and Mother Teresa. One DOES good, one talks about it and inserts judgment and ego.

People mock Jesus because deep inside they have this hole, and they try to fill it with all that the world has to offer. In reality the only thing that will fill that hole is a relationship with God. Satan has ownership over them as long as they refuse God, and he (Satan) hates everything to do with God, especially Jesus and His shed blood. So he has his people mock Jesus in hopes that that will not only keep them away from God, but he also hopes it will turn others away from God also.

Same reason people mock the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

To tick off those that harrass them about following Jesus.

I have no problem with Christians, still there are some that are obnoxious, offensive, and will harrass me because I don't follow Jesus. I don't try to force my religion down anyone elses throat, and am offended when others try to do it to me.

If all Christians simply lead by example than by harrassment and hard sell tactics (that would make a used car salesman envious) then no one would try to upset them the way you have seen.

Buddhism and Buddhists are very rarely harassed here. The main reason is that Buddhist don't try to convert others.

While some folks don't like Jews, they don't make enemy's the way Christians do, by obnoxiously trying to convert people.

I don't mock Jesus, I mock the followers of Jesus who don't follow his message at all. (This doesn't include every follower of Jesus).

Who mocks Jesus? I don't think mock is the right word. People question Jesus' existence. They don't mock him.

I have a theory: those who mock Jesus are afraid of him.
Someone once said that we attempt to destroy anything we are afraid of. Fear blinds us to reality.
Maybe some people who mock Jesus have seen just enough of him to fear that they may be wrong, that Jesus is the way to heaven, and they are afraid of that fact, because they have to change or because they have to admit they're wrong, I don't know. Maybe mocking Jesus is their way of attempting to destroy him in their lives.

I don't mock Jesus. I believe he existed and had some beautiful teachings. I just don't believe in the Christ part.

Because they know the story is not true. They are mocking you not Jesus

For the same reason He has been mocked throughout the centuries...no one wants to be told that they're a sinner in need of a Saviour.

The Pharisees were really honked off when He called them out for being the hypocrites they were--they made sure He was railroaded and executed.
