It is a religious teaching that exists in the Quran but also exists in the OT of the bible. Jews also don't eat pork, and some Christian denominations choose to avoid it.
I personally eat bacon and pepperoni but generally try to stay clear of the other cuts, because Pigs are filthy.
If you would like to see why I say this check out the following experiment and do it at home. It will really open your eyes. I did it, a few months ago and haven't eaten pork since.

Muslims do not eat pork because it has no neck....every animal that is killed for food purpose has to be cut at the jugular in the neck............pig's don't have a neck......it is also forbidden for christians and jews because pigs are not clean......... they eat there own poo poo too.

It's considered an unclean animal, it lives in it's and even eats it's own feaces. And also microbial and parasitic infections can be transmitted through pork.

Muslims believe that animals with hooves are a sign of the devil, hence cows, pigs, goats etc. Since the devil is supposed to have cloven hooves, they consider any animal with the same evil and bad luck.

its a dirty animal in islam,i dont understand why people make this an issue,hindus are not allow to eat any kind of meat,then why people point out us:(.its not fair,we can ask"why don't u eat dog?....

We dont eat pork because God forbade it.
"Forbidden to you (for food) are: Al-Maytatah (the dead animals - cattle-beast not slaughtered), blood, the flesh of swine..." [Quran 5:3]
