We are looking at buying a house, but there isnt a door from the inside into the backyard. We want to put one in the kitchen, so we can watch the kiddos in the fenced backyard from the kitchen. There is a big blank wall at the back of the house, and we want to put in a sliding door or French doors.
Around how much would it cost for labour to put in the doors? Like, how much would it cost not including the doors, to get a contractor to put them in for us? Just an idea would be great so we can tack on that cost to our mortgage... thanks!

Sliding glass doors range from a few hundred to a few thousand depending on what they are made of and glass features. i would also look into french doors - 2 doors opening independant of each other - look much better and last longer - sliding glass doors all have latch/handle/locking issues.
You do not say if it is a wood/vinyl sided or brick house - would make a difference in install costs - wood or sided - I would not pay more than $400-$700 for install - brick will be more because of cutting the hole and then reinforcing the structure.

I would probably charge around 500-750 dollars to open your wall..cut out a 6 foot opening..put a header in and pop ya door in. This is a easy job..little messy. If the contractor is good and keeps his dirty hands off the wall..u shouldn't have to paint the kitchen after this..unless ya want to. I like to trim out the doors with 1x4 pine...I put a bevel on the edge and stain it up. Looks gorgeous!!
I DONT AGREE WITH THE BRICK COSTING MORE. this IS STILL A VERY EASY JOB. IF YOU CAN SNAP A LINE AND HOLD A CONCRETE SAW STRAIGHT WHILE U CUT..THERES NO PROBLEM. I WOULD RATHER IT BE BRICK SO I DIDNT HAVE TO PUT ALL THE NEW J CHANNEL IN FOR SIDING. SPECIALLY IF ITS ALUMINUM SIDING...YUCK

I pretty much agree with the pricing seen here, no matter the TYPE of doors you choose. Even an interior bedroom door would be no less than $75 just to hang.

In my case, I apply that to a days labor and that fee per hour isn't unreasonable for the work described.

Actually, depending on your choice of door/doors, they could be double or more, the labor cost.
